PENANG: Retired civil servant Thor Keat Beng seems to be on a lucky streak.

Thor, 55, was one of the six winners in The Star’s Power of 9 Week 5 contest taking home RM5,833.33.

Thor who has been taking part in contests for about 30 years, was one of the 76 winners in Week 3 of the same contest where he won RM460.

“I’m feeling on top of the world. I guess this is a sign for me not to quit until I win the grand prize of RM35,000,” Thor said.

“I plan to send in 21 entries for Week 8.”

He said that before taking part in the weekly contest, he analysed the people winning.

“I found out that the winners are usually middle-aged or elderly people and the majority are women who are either office workers or housewives,” he said.

Thor said his biggest win in contests so far was the RM10,000 prize he won after emerging third in The Star Rewards Word Puzzle in October last year.

Another lucky winner was Chuah Hui Xia, 19, of Petaling Jaya who said she was trying to save enough money to get everything she needed, including a laptop computer, she when she registered at a local university next year.

“I will also give a big treat to my parents and two sisters whose encouragement kept me going,” she said.

The other winners were: Rohani Hassan Mohamed (Kuala Lumpur); Abdul Rahman Draof (Kajang); Chee Be Keng (Kedah); and Chan Wee Lee (Petaling Jaya).

The Power of 9 contest began on Sept 11 and will run for nine weeks until Nov 12. It is held in conjunction with The Star’s 35th anniversary.
