PETALING JAYA: Kelvin Yew, 28, could not believe his luck when was informed he was one of the nine winners in The Star-Maxis Shootout Contest 2006, again.

Yew, who was one of the winners in Week 5 to win an all-expense paid trip to Europe, said he had also won a Nokia 6280 in Week 3.

“When I told my mother that I won the trip, she asked me, 'Are you sure you're so lucky?'

“I sent in about 25 entries for Week 5. I wasn’t going to take any chance,” he said with a laugh, adding that he was motivated to take part as his aunt had just returned from a trip to Europe in May and the photos she took looked “really nice”.

Yew, a geophysicist, added that he had his friends and colleagues to thank as he asked their opinion before sending in the entries.

Week 5 saw the winners ranking the Star Players in the 2006 World Cup and these players won the most popular votes – Zinedine Zidane, Miroslav Klose, Ronaldo, Hernan Crespo, and Steven Gerrard.

Another winner Jessica Lew, 18, said she would give her prize to her parents.

“I'm still young, and I think it's my parents time to enjoy themselves now.

“We were supporting Germany initially. But after they were out, my mother predicted Italy would win the World Cup,” she said.

A total of 3,965 entries were received for Week 5, out of which 256 entries had the ranking that matched the overall popular vote of the contestants.

Both Yew and Lew won themselves an all-expense paid trip to Europe, a Bonus Prize of a set of 3G Hotlink Starter Kit Pack worth RM45 and a RM100 Football Superstar Top Up Ticket.

Fee Siang Yin, Teoh Beng Jun, Mohd Jamil Ibrahim, Quinsy Bati, Mahathir Mohamed, Hasnul Hisam Ghazali and Huang Kie Kyon each won a trip to Europe.
