KANGAR: A nine-year-old boy from Kampung Serdang, Kodiang in Kedah, struck it big by winning a black Peugeot 408 at the Perlis Marathon 2017 lucky draw, today.

Muhammad Farhan Hakimi Mohamad Nor, a Year Three student, could not believe his ears when he was announced as the grand prize lucky draw winner during the post-race prize-giving ceremony.

It was Farhan’s first time participating in the 5km category of the Perlis Marathon, and he had not expected to even win a medal, as the competition was stiff – let alone a brand new car.

The youngest of six, Farhan, whose father passed away due to a stroke two years ago, plans to give the car to his 27-year-old brother.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would win a prize today. I am very grateful and happy to bring back this car,” he said, adding that he hopes to travel to Kuala Lumpur in the car one day.

Farhan was accompanied by his sister and cousin to the annual state event, which was initiated by the state government and jointly-organised with the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA).

This year’s marathon drew 12,500 runners from across Malaysia and abroad, and was graced by Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man and NCIA chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq.
