The "Shell – VISA Scratch & Win Contest" launched nationwide on 15 July 2005 has reached its halfway mark, and already some 35 winners have collected their prizes.

Two winners won on their first-ever attempt at the competition. Both won a Motorola E398 handphone each and attributed their wins to beginners’ luck. “I still can’t believe I won with just one entry,” says Mr. V. Thevan a/l A. Veeramalai, 39, of Serdang. The other winner, En. Kamarudin bin Jamram of Bentong, also 39, says this is the first time he’s ever entered a contest.

A loyal customer at Shell petrol stations in Bangsar and the Petaling Jaya area, Mr. Thevan says he always fills up at Shell because no other fuel gives him better mileage. En. Kamarudin, on the other hand, uses Shell because “my engine is quieter and I find the exhaust emission is very much reduced.”

The Shell VISA Scratch & Win competition requires Shell customers to charge at least RM45 worth of petrol, lubricants or shop items to their VISA cards between 15 July and 15 August 2005. Customers then receive a scratch card which instantly determines if they are winners. Winners then have to answer a simple question and attach their VISA payment slips to redeem their prizes.

With RM250,000 worth of prizes to be won, still up for grabs are SONY Grand Wega LCD television sets, SONY Cybershot digital cameras, Apple iBook G4 laptops, iPod mini MP3 players, and more Motorola E398 handphones.
